TAKE A STROLL WITH ME – ARCHITECTURAL AND PHILOSOPHICAL WALKS THROUGH BAVARIA’S CITIES AND TOWNS
The Bavarian foundation “Stiftung des BDA Bayern e.V.” was founded in 1989 although its umbrella organisation, the BDA (Association of German Architects), has been in existence since 1903. The Association of German Architects in Bavaria Foundation has the goal of directing public interest towards architecture as a key element of environmental design. A diverse and varied programme of events is intended to rectify existing shortcomings and appeal to a wider public. It is buttressed with workshop reports, exhibitions, seminars, discussions and lectures. According to figures from the regional associations, there are around 5000 members at present.
"THE TOUR GUIDE SYSTEM IS VERY EASY TO USE”
The “Take a stroll with me” series of events was initiated in 2015/2016 – and, so far, architectural and philosophy-based walks have been organised through Bamberg, Munich and most recently Augsburg. Philosophers guide participants around the towns and cities, stopping at various points of interest. The walks are intended to make architecture even more tangible and consider it from different perspectives. They also involve discussions and philosophising.
A rented BMS Audio TOM-Audio TG-100 tour guide system was used from the outset with 30 to 50 people per group and 4 to 6 walks per year. “One time no tour guide system was available and the quality suffered severely as a result,” explains Mrs Mang-Bohn, BDA architect and, with Dr. Martin Düchs, initiator and organiser of the event series.
"he tour guide system is easy to use. We need to watch out that guests don't take the equipment home with them as it is so lightweight."
There is a lot of noise on these walks, particularly in the city centres and at tourist hotspots, so the tour guide system is a great assistant to the guide. Everyone hears what is said at the same time - no questions need to be asked. Three of the six events held to date in this series have been filmed and each one is 20-30 minutes long. View the TOM-Audio TG-100 in operation here. “At the end we need to watch out that the guests do not take the receivers home with them as they are so light and unobtrusive.”
We are glad to be able to support this unique project with our tour guide systems.
