FROM A PRIVATE ART AND NATURAL HISTORY COLLECTION TO TODAY‘S UNIVERSAL MUSEUM

Today, the Hessian State Museum Darmstadt HLMD is one of the few universal museums in Europe that still unites several disciplines from art, cultural and natural history under one roof. The museum has a prehistoric and early historic collection as well as an Egyptian collection, a Greek and Roman archaeology, medieval ivory works, a painting gallery with paintings and sculptures from the early Middle Ages to the present, an arts and crafts from the Renaissance to the present, the largest complex of works by Joseph Beuys (known as the „Block Beuys“), an outstanding collection of prints and drawings, and a natural history department focusing on zoology, earth history and life history - including mineralogy, geology and paleontology with the fossils from the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site „Grube Messel“.

NEW PERSONAL GUIDANCE SYSTEM FROM BMS AUDIO ENSURES COMPETENT PRESENTATION

In the past, guided tours through the permanent exhibition and the special exhibitions were conducted completely without technical support. Since the purchase of 50 receivers and 2 transmitters from BMS Audio in mid-2019, two groups of 25 people each can be guided. Initially skeptical, the guides feared an additional expense and at first did not want to use the devices. But the advantages of a personal tour system speak for themselves and convinced the presenters within a very short time: „A big advantage is that the freelancers can speak at room volume, making it much easier to appear competent - despite the additional background noise in the halls, which often cannot be prevented,“ explains Dr. Lutz Fichtner, Head of Education and Outreach / Events at the State Museum. The presenters are now very happy to use the system, are pleased with the spared voice and the fact that guests can sometimes stop in front of the objects and still hear everything from the tour. „People have realized how uncomplicated it all is and how easy it is to handle,“ says a pleased Lutz Fichtner.

FREQUENT USE AND IMPECCABLE SERVICE

The tour guide system is now used regularly up to three times a day in the large special exhibitions and in some cases also in the permanent exhibition, and enables a competent as well as content-focused tour. The museum is happy to welcome a very broad spectrum of visitors, including older people. Here in particular, „practice has shown that this system is suitable for any clientele and brings decisive advantages for both sides,“ says Dr. Lutz Fichtner, emphasizing the system‘s ease of use. Due to continuous use, minor defects cannot be completely avoided in the long term. This is another great strength of BMS Audio: „Our service department reacts extremely quickly and repairs directly in-house. The supply of required accessories is also made available from stock quickly and without complications.
We are proud to enrich the Hessian State Museum Darmstadt with our TOM-Audio TG-100 and we wish many interesting tours in this universal museum.
